Comments from Course: Phil read memo from Paul Henderson regarding course conditions:
“I'm unable to make the meeting tonight. But in regards to the height
of the fairways, our approach has been to maintain a certain look at
WildHawk and not to deviate too far from the mowing specs recommended
by the golf course architect. But your input on the height of the
fairway cut is a fair recommendation. We are currently at 1/2 inch
and a mowing frequency of once a week. Beginning Friday we will
raise the height to 5/8 of an inch and increase the frequency to
twice a week. We will run with this height for a while and then
see if any more adjustments need to be made.
Other course items to report. The fairway bunker on #1 is nearing
completion and should be ready for play on Friday. Some of the
bunkers have been taking longer to re-furbish than originally
planned because of the need to re-establish the original bunker
shape and edge. After 12 years of edging, raking and sand
spill-out many of the bunkers have lost some of their shape
or have higher green side edges due to excessive sand spill
out. Re-building these edges has taken longer than anticipated.
I addition most of the bunker drainage had to be re-done due
to incorrect pipe used during construction.
You might also notice new "Repair Your Ball Mark" mini-flags
have been installed on every flagstick. I thought this was a
better option than a small sign on a green.
that concludes my course report, if you need anything else
please let me know...” Paul
Comments from WPA Board
Al Jordan wanted to know why the meeting minutes were
not being posted timely on the website. It was explained
to Al that the meeting minutes were a month behind, but that
they are not posted until they are approved by the Board at
the subsequent months’ meeting. Therefore, they will always
be about five to six week behind depending on the date of the
Board Meeting.
Tournament / Rule Committee – Scott / Phil / Todd
Phil talked about the upcoming Stableford Tournament. Deane will
send out several more email blasts that will include information
on the upcoming Club Championship and Board of Director nominations.
Phil read a memo from Scott Davis asking about the water running
over the cart path on the 11th hole. Bob Imrisek works for the
county and had an answer regarding this situation:
“The new Vineyard surface treatment plant is in a startup acceptance
test phase which requires it to run at different flow rates over a
fixed time period. The water used is not intended to be distributed
to customers yet, so it’s being discharged into a creek which flows
into the privately owned lake across Gerber rd. That lake overflows
to Wildhawk’s wetland area across # 11 tee. The water is coming
from the intake facility you can see west of I-5 on the Sac river.
It’s then pumped 17.5 miles to the treatment plant on Florin rd.”
