8:30 A.M. Shotgun start

This is a Four (4)-person team, scramble format competition tournament. There are no course handicaps applied to individual or team scores. Handicaps are used only for determining A, B, C, D players. All players hit a tee shot and then select one of the tee shots from which to play the next shot.
All players then hit from that position. This procedure is repeated until the ball is holed out. At least four drives must be used from each player.

Fairways - the ball may be moved one club length, no closer to the hole, when in the fairway (the closely mowed grass).

Rough - the ball may be moved one club length, no closer to the hole.

Greens - the ball may be moved one putter head width, no closer to the hole, when on the green.

There are no course handicaps applied to individual or team scores.

The men will play from the Blue Tees and the women from the Green Tees

Record your team score on each hole. At the completion of your round please turn in your signed scorecards to the scoring table.

The number of players will determine the number and amount of prizes.

February 18th, 2012

8:00 A.M. Shotgun Start

New this year, a two-person Modified Chapman format. Both players on a team hit tee shots, and then play second shots using their partner’s tee shot (and ball).  The team must then select one ball with which to complete the hole using an alternate shot format. If Player “A” last hit the selected ball, player “B” shall play first in the alternation.

USGA rules apply, fairways, rough, bunkers and greens – the ball being played down.

Individual handicaps are computed to provide a single team handicap by using 60% of lower index added to 40% of higher index.  This “Team” handicap is subtracted from the gross score to produce a net score.

The men will play from the Blue Tees and the women from the Green Tees

The number of players will determine the number and amount of prizes.

March 10 & 11, 2012

Tee Times starting @ 8:00am

This is a two day, two-person, better ball format. The top 2 teams will represent the WPA at an NCGA Sectional Qualifier on May 24th at a location to be identified later. The 4 Ball Net Championship will be held on June 25th and 26th at Poppy Hills and Spyglass Hill.

USGA rules apply; Fairways, Rough, Bunkers, and Greens –the ball being played down. Pace of Play will be enforced.

Individual course handicaps will be calculated based on each player’s most recent index up to a maximum of 18.4. Players with a higher index may participate but are limited to a handicap of 18.4. If partners’ handicaps differ by more than 8 strokes, an additional 10% reduction will be applied to their course handicaps. There will be 2 flights with winners from each moving on to the Regional Qualifier. The team with the next lowest score from either flight will be an alternate team. Ladies handicaps will be adjusted per section 3-5 of the USGA/NCGA Handicap System.

The men will play from the Blue Tees and the women from the Green Tees

This is a net score competition applying course handicap. Teams within a foursome will exchange scorecards and record gross as well as lowest scores for each hole. Ties will be settled by a three hole playoff starting immediately after the final group finishes. If the match is still tied after three holes, subsequent holes shall be played as sudden death. Your score will be posted by the Handicap Committee as Tournament score (T).

There will be a 50/50 raffle for anyone interested in participating.

April 14 & 15, 2012

Tee Times starting @ 8:00am

This is a two-day, two-person, better ball format. The top 2 teams will represent the WPA at a NCGA Regional Zone Qualifier at Poppy Hills & Quail Lodge on June 11 & 12. Winners from the Regional Qualifier will play in the Zone Championship at Poppy Hills and Spyglass Hill on Aug 27 & 28.

USGA rules apply; Fairways, Rough, Bunkers, and Greens –the ball being played down. Pace of Play will be enforced.

7:30 A.M. Shotgun Start

This is a 2-Person Scramble. EACH player must use at least 6 tee shots. Both players tee off and select one from which they both play subsequent shots until the ball is holed out.

Fairways - the ball may be moved one club length, no nearer the hole.

Rough - the ball may be moved one club length, no nearer the hole, but must remain in the rough.

Hazards – the ball must be played from the hazard as close to the original spot as possible.

 Handicapping:

This is a team flighted, handicapped event.

The men will play from the Blue Tees and the women from the Green Tees

Record your team score noting which player’s drive was selected for each hole. Turn in your signed scorecards at the scoring table.  

Prizes and Raffle: The number of players will determine the quantity of tournament and raffle prizes.

7:30 A.M. Tee Times

Two-person, Better Ball Format for players 55 years of age or older. Players must have reached their 55^th birthday by September 17, 2012 and have a numeric handicap listed on their club’s master report not to exceed 36.4 (men) or 40.0 (women) on the date of registration. The winning 2 teams will represent the WPA at a NCGA Regional Qualifier (location to be named later) on August 9 2012. The team with the next lowest score from either flight will be an alternate team. Winners from the Regional Qualifier will play in the Championship at Poppy Ridge Golf Course on September 17 & 18 2012.

All play will be 90% (men) & 95% (women) of course handicap using a maximum handicap index of 18.4 for calculation. Players with handicaps greater than 18.4 are eligible but must play to a maximum handicap of 18.4. If partners’ course handicaps differ by more than 8 strokes, an additional 10% reduction will be applied to their course handicaps.  One partner may represent the team for any part of a stipulated round for qualifying or the championship proper.

Men will play from the Blue Tees and women from the Green Tees.

This is an individual stroke play, flighted competition. Each person will be placed into a flight determined by dividing the total number of participants into equal flights or as close as possible. The Tournament Committee shall have final decision on the flight divisions. The lowest GROSS score will determine the first flight winner, as this flight will not be handicapped. The lowest NET score will determine the winners of the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th flights.

In all other flights individual scoring will be by handicap applying each person's Handicap Index in relation to the course as listed with the NCGA as of June 1, 2010. The first flight shall play from the Gold Tees. All other flights the men will play from the Blue Tees and the women from the Green Tees

July 14 & 15, 2012

7:30 A.M. Tee Times

This is a two-day, individual stroke play competition to qualify for further NCGA Sectional Tournament play, location to be determined. There will be three flights created similar to the NCGA final tournament flighting. This will be completed by placing participants into a flight determined by dividing the total number of participants into three equal flights or as close as possible.
The Tournament Committee shall have final decision on the flight divisions.
Depending on the total number of WPA group members” between 3 and 6 participants will be selected to go forward to the next NCGA Sectional Tournament.
The lowest overall gross score for each flight will be awarded a gift certificate to the Wildhawk Pro Shop.
The number of tournament players will determine the size of each flight and amount of gift certificates awarded.

This is a two-day, individual stroke play, flighted competition. Each person will be placed into a flight determined by dividing the total number of participants into equal flights or as close as possible. The Tournament Committee shall have final decision on the flight divisions. The lowest NET score for the two-day competition will determine the winners of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th flights. The lowest two-day GROSS score will determine the Championship flight winner, as this flight will not be handicapped.

Fairways, Rough, Bunkers, and Greens - the ball being played down; USGA rules apply.

The Championship flight will not be handicapped and will play at scratch. In all other flights individual scoring will be by handicap applying each person’s Handicap Index in relation to the course as listed with the NCGA as of October 1, 2010. Ladies handicap adjusted per Section 3-5 of the USGA/NCGA handicap system.

The Championship Flight shall play from the Gold Tees. All other flights, the men shall play from the Blue Tees and the women from the Green Tees.

For each day competition, each person shall exchange their card with another person in their group and they shall record and attest to the competitors individual “gross” score of each hole. At the completion of your round please turn in your signed scorecards to the scoring table inside the grille where all handicap reductions will be applied.

Prizes: The number of players will determine the number and the amount of tournament prizes.

The lowest net score for the two-day competition will determine the winners of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th flights. The lowest two-day GROSS score will determine the Championship flight winner, as this flight will not be handicapped.

October 27, 2012

8:00 A.M. Shotgun Start

This a 2-person team competition with three different playing formats as follows:
First six holes - Scramble Format - EACH player must use 3 tee shots during the six holes. On every hole each player of the team will hit a tee shot. The team then selects one of the tee shots from which to play next. Both members of the team then hit from that position. This procedure is repeated until the ball is holed out.
Second six holes - Alternate Shot Format - One player will hit the tee shot and then the second player will hit from the location that the ball came to rest. This process is continued until the ball is holed out. The person who did not hole the ball on the preceding hole will hit the tee shot for the next hole. Once the rotation is initiated it will continue through all the six holes.
Third six holes - Best Ball Format - Both players will play their individual shots until their balls are holed out. The best gross score between the two players shall be recorded for each hole.

Scramble format
- Fairways and Rough - the ball may be moved one club length no closer to the hole
- Greens - the ball may be moved one putter head width no closer to the hole
Alternate Shot/Best Ball Formats
- Fairways/Rough/Greens - the ball will be played down: USGA rules apply

There will be no handicapping; gross scoring only.

November 17, 2012

8:00 A.M. Shotgun start

This a 4-person Turkey Ball and Scramble format competition tournament. Teams will be determined by blind draw. There are no course handicaps applied to individual or team scores.

Part 1 - The "Turkey Ball"
Each team will determine a rotation to identify one person on each hole to play the "Turkey Ball". The "Turkey Ball" is a specially marked, colored golf ball that is played as "stroke play" only by the one identified person. At the end of the round of golf the "Turkey Ball" must be returned to the scorer's table

If at any time the "Turkey Ball" is lost or is hit "out-of-bounds" then the team ends its ability to finish this part of the tournament scoring. NOTE: If a team loses its "Turkey Ball" then they may continue to play the second part (Scramble format) as a three person scramble insuring that a player sits out each hole per your team's original rotation.

Part 2 - The three-person "Scramble Format"
While the one person is playing the "Turkey Ball", the other three players will play a "Scramble Format". They will hit a tee shot and then select one of the tee shots from which to play the next shot and then hit from that position. This procedure is repeated until the ball is holed out. Each player must use at least two drives in the 18 holes during the "Scramble Format" portion.

Scramble Format -

Fairways and Rough - the ball may be moved one club length, no closer to the hole.

Greens - the ball may be moved one putter head width, no closer to the hole.

There are no course handicaps applied to individual or team scores.

There will be TWO (2) scores posted for each hole, ONE (1) for the "Turkey Ball" (Part 1) and ONE (1) for the three person Scramble (Part 2). At the completion of your round please turn in your signed scorecards with the "Turkey Ball" to the scoring table inside the grille.

Every player will receive a Turkey Certificate. The number of players will determine the number and the amount of prizes.

December 8, 2012

10:00 A.M. Shotgun start

This is an 18 holes, individual stroke play tournament.

Fairways, Rough, Bunkers, and Greens - the ball being played down; USGA rules apply.

Individual scoring will be by handicap applying each person's Handicap Index in relation to the course as listed with the NCGA as of December 1, 2010. Ladies handicap adjusted per Section 3-5 of the USGA/NCGA handicap system.

The men will play from the Blue Tees and the women from the Green Tees

Each player shall exchange their card with another player in their group and record the competitor's "gross" score of each hole. At the completion of your round please turn in your signed scorecards to the scoring table inside the grille where all handicap reductions will be applied.

Prizes: The number of players will determine the number and the amount of prizes.
Raffle: WPA members will receive a ticket for each event they entered during the year. Any WPA member who has played in eight or more events will receive one special raffle ticket for the Grand Prize, an "Annual Pass".
